A New Beginning: Celebrating the Opening of Horizon House

On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, we celebrated a very special milestone: the opening of Horizon House, a new home for youth with mental health needs.

This fall, four young people will walk through its doors and begin calling it home.

For Mount Olivet Rolling Acres (MORA), Horizon House represents more than a new program. It represents hope, opportunity and the belief that every young person deserves a safe place where they can feel supported, connected and at home.

A Home Created with Intention

MORA purchased the Richfield home in December 2025, following an invitation from the previous owner, with whom MORA had a longstanding relationship. The home was purchased below its appraised value, helping make this vision possible.

From the beginning, we knew this needed to feel like a home, not a facility.

The house underwent a complete reconstruction, including the removal of three fireplaces, new fencing and landscaping, and countless thoughtful updates. Every detail was considered with the young people who will live here in mind. The home combines a warm, welcoming environment with important safety features, including anti-ligature fixtures and durable furnishings.

We are grateful to Crest Exteriors and all of the donors and partners who helped bring Horizon House to life.

The Little Things Mean So Much

Perhaps the most touching part of celebrating Horizon House has been hearing from the young people who will call it home.

During a recent tour, one of the girls was so excited that she had “crying happy tears.” She couldn’t wait to move in and show her cousins that this would be her home.

Another young resident shared how excited she is to be able to spend time in the community and have her family visit her.

For these young people, having choices can mean so much. They will be able to choose their bedding and paint colors, help create menus and choose foods that are important to them, enjoy a sensory space and participate in activities in their community.

These choices help create something bigger: a sense of belonging.

A Place to Grow

Horizon House will serve youth ages 5–17 of all genders. Each young person will have their own bedroom, consistent support from trained staff, opportunities to attend school and participate in the community, and opportunities to maintain important family connections.

Our staff are trained in trauma-informed care and person-centered service delivery. They are excited to create a therapeutic home where each young person feels seen, heard, and valued.

As we open the doors to Horizon House, we are filled with gratitude for everyone who helped make this home possible and excitement for the young people who will soon fill it with laughter, memories and life.

At the heart of Horizon House is something simple and powerful: Every child deserves a place to call home.
