When Andrea Taber joined MORA in June 2019, it wasn’t just the start of a new job, it was the continuation of a deeply personal mission.
Andrea’s journey into nursing began long before she ever stepped into a clinical role. After relocating from North Dakota due to her husband’s job, she made a life-changing decision to switch careers from cosmetology to nursing. The reason was close to home: her son Grayson, who has autism and lives in a group home.
“I noticed that nursing care for individuals like him varied, some great, some not,” Andrea shares. “I wanted to be part of the difference.”
MORA was the first place she interviewed, and the only one she needed. She accepted the position and officially joined the team on June 10, 2019.
Finding Purpose in Everyday Moments
Ask Andrea about her proudest moment at MORA, and she won’t point to just one milestone.
“Honestly, every moment is a proud moment,” she says. “What we are doing is life-changing, and I am so happy to be a part of it.”
For Andrea, it’s often the small, meaningful interactions that leave the biggest impact. Whether accompanying clients to appointments or spending one-on-one time together, she’s reminded daily why her work matters.
“The smile and excitement they show when they know you’re spending the day with them, that’s what keeps me going.”
Empowering Through Nursing Care
Andrea has seen firsthand how MORA’s nursing services transform lives. By bringing consistent nursing support into the home, clients become more confident and engaged in their own healthcare.
“I’ve seen clients become more involved in their medical care,” she explains. “They enjoy having conversations with nursing staff, and it gives them knowledge and confidence.”
At the core of her work is a strong belief in person-centered care.
“Every individual is different. What works for one person may not work for another,” Andrea says. “It’s about truly seeing and supporting each person for who they are.”
A Team That Shows Up
Andrea is quick to highlight the people she works alongside.
“Our nursing team is amazing,” she says. “We support each other at the drop of a dime.”
That sense of teamwork extends beyond staff, it includes clients, families, and the broader community. For Andrea, being part of MORA means building relationships that grow over time.
“Getting to know families and growing with them is incredibly meaningful,” she shares. “Seeing clients live happily and safely in the community—that’s what this is all about.”
More Than a Nurse
Andrea hopes more people understand the depth of what nursing looks like at MORA.
“We’re more than nurses,” she explains. “We’re listeners. We’re there to lend a hand. We provide emotional, physical, and mental support, not just to clients, but to staff and families too.”
Her advice to anyone considering a role at MORA?
“Just do it. The work we do is so gratifying for everyone involved.”
Driven by Advocacy and Passion
Over the years, Andrea has learned that advocacy is essential.
“We need to advocate for the individuals we serve. They need us, and we need them.”
It’s that sense of purpose, and a genuine love for her work, that keeps her motivated every day.
“I love my job,” Andrea says simply. “I know the work we’re doing is making a difference, and that’s all that matters.”
